Benefits of a Venetian Plaster Wall Finish

Updated: Dec 23, 2018

Very durable

The new products are very low-maintenance and very durable. You used to need to re-plaster a whole wall to cover one scuff or blemish, but those days are gone. Today there's an array of lime plasters that can be easily repaired in patches and then blended with the rest of the wall. And most minor scuffs can be removed with a damp cloth and mild detergent, or a light sanding of the surface with 1000-grit sandpaper or a fine steel wool. It’s a lot lower-maintenance than people think, pretty much as flexible as paint in terms of application and maintenance.

Timeless

Venetian plaster is timeless and interchangeable. Even though the pre-mixed coloring eliminates the need to paint, Venetian plaster is an ultra smooth surface which lends itself easily to modifications. With very little preparation, you can easily transform a room from a nursery into a child's or teen's bedroom, or give your kitchen a quick face lift ,to always maintain a fresh appearance in your home.

Environmentally-Friendly

Venetian plaster is one easy way to "go green." The ingredients are all natural and non-toxic, and when applied in a two or three coat veneer, plaster provides an optimal indoor air quality. Lime is also naturally high in PH, so it automatically acts as an antibacterial surface, which inhibits the growth of mold and other fungus. Plaster will also have a positive impact on your energy costs, since it is applied in multiple layers of wood and cement board before the plaster is spread, it is an easy way to add layers of insulation to your home, making your furnace and air conditioner more efficient.

ECO

Lime plaster is nontoxic and emits zero VOC's. From a sanitary standpoint, it's also breathable, allowing moisture to escape from the substrate, and is naturally mold- and mildew-resistant. The biggest drawback is that it's more costly than paint.

It has anti-flammable properties

Not only does plaster provide a great source of isolation for building walls, but Venetian plasterwork also provides security to constructions because of its anti-flammable properties. It is believed that, even since ancient times, people were aware of this fantastic quality and used plaster on all their buildings in the hopes of fire proofing their homes. It was common practice to paint over it to add more personality and feel to their habitat. The plaster itself is so resilient that the original plastering on the walls of the ancient city of Pompeii in Naples can still be seen today.
